Hamilton County Fair will celebrate Demolition Derby

WEBSTER CITY — The final night of the Hamilton County Fair will end in destruction.

For 50 years, drivers have hit the track at the fair to hit each other and see who is the last driver standing.

Jacob Pruismann, the derby promoter, has put together a solid slate of racing, which will be highlighted by the Past Champions Class.

The event begins at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the Hamilton County Fairgrounds.

Classes for the event will be compacts, 80’s Old Iron Stock Mix, Limited Weld, the Past Champions Class, Mower Class and a Trailer Class to cap the festivities.

“We will honor past winners by having them come down and recognizing them,” Pruismann said. “There will be a Past Champions class, and all the drivers will come together for a one time race.”

Bernie Long was the first Demolition Derby winner in 1969. Stacy Flynn (fullsize) and Jacob Everts (compact) were last year’s champs.

Pruismann, who has also been a winner in Webster City, said around 45 drivers will be in attendance.

There have been a number of drivers that have picked up multiple victories in the past 50 years. Troy Draeger has six victories, followed by Alan Muller with five. Glenn Devries has four. Muller and Devries both had streaks of three consecutive victories.

“It’s going to be a great night, celebrating 50 years of destruction at the fair,” Pruismann said. “We just want to pay tribute to those who have competed in the past and try to keep it going in the future.”

The cost for the derby is $12 (for 16 and older), $8 youth (6-15 years old), and kids under five get in free.

Starting at $4.94/week.
