GOWRIE — Central Plains FFA members from Southeast Valley High School and Middle School braved the cold weather on Tuesday to grill up pork burgers and package homemade meals to feed area farmers during planting season.
The FFA chapter packaged nearly 100 meals to feed farmers in Gowrie, Farnhamville, Callender, Moorland, Harcourt and Dayton.
“Feed the Farmers is a great opportunity for the students and farmers in the community to make a connection,” said Johanna Peterson, Central Plains FFA advisor. “It’s a small thing that FFA does to thank the people who work in agriculture every day.”
Central Plains FFA officers partnered with the Webster County Pork Producers and Iowa Corn for the annual event.
“Having them work with these organizations gives them even more connections and helps to build communication skills and teamwork abilities,” said Peterson. “The members even learn things before the event when planning and reaching out to sponsors and farmers. They worked hard to make this event a success, and we had a great turnout.”
