Algona claims Wildcat title

HUMBOLDT — The St. Edmond girls track and field team jumped back into action here Monday night alongside several area squads at a meet hosted by Humboldt.

Algona finished first, as the Wildcats were second. Webster City, Pocahontas Area, Southeast Valley, Hampton-Dumont/CAL, Estherville-LC and St. Edmond rounded out the team scoring.

Leading the way for the Gaels was Naomi Valles, as she finished third in the 3,000 and was sixth in the 800. Grace Schlegel placed fourth in the 1,500, as Rihanna Myers was fifth in the discus.

The 4×200 relay of Kenzie Nolte, Ava Bradley, Breckyn Ulrich and Brianna Saathoff finished fourth, as did the distance medley relay of Bradley, Saathoff, Alex Leiting and Schlegel.

Adelyn Bangert won the junior varsity 800 for St. Edmond.

“We will use this meet as a learning experience,” SEHS head coach CJ Tracy said. “It’s time to buckle down, as there are only a couple weeks to prepare for the state qualifying meet. We will be ready for that night.”

The Bulldogs scored four individual first place finishes and won a relay, as Natalie Johnson claimed the 200 (26.80), Sienna Fehr the 400 hurdles (1:11.54), Jada Roberts the high jump (5-4) and Maya Lentz the long jump (16-1.5).

Fehr, Alissa Engel, Cassidy Bierstedt and Alyssa Miller won the shuttle hurdle relay in 1:12.66. Miller was second in the 100 hurdles, Rose Kitzinger took second in the 400 and Reagan Haynes was runner-up in both the shot put and discus.

The 4×100 and 4×400 relays also placed second for Algona.

Aubry Fisher was a double-winner for the Wildcats, claiming the 1,500 and 3000. Brynn Malo won the 800, as Humboldt scored gold in the distance medley relay behind Peyton Elman, Gracie May, Kate Sievers and Malo.

Avery Fisher added a runner-up in the 3,000.

Isabel Grossoehme won the 400 and anchored both the winning sprint medley and 4×400 relays for the Lynx, as she also finished second in the 200. Kali Hartnett, Isabel Weinschenk and Tessa Hansen ran both relays with Grossoehme.

Danica Dreith claimed both the 100 and 100 hurdles to lead the Indians, as Halee Hauswirth was first in the shot put. Dreith went 13.11 in the 100 and 16.42 in the 100 hurdles, with Hauswirth’s best throw being 37-85.

Dreith, Hauswirth, Natalie Sommerlot and Khloe Mefferd won the 4×100 in 52.71.

The Jaguars won both the 4×200 and 4×800 relays, with three others placing second in individual events.

Sage Lane, Mae Searcy, Madelyn Farley and Avrie Hanson ran the 4×200 in 1:55.59, as Charlotte Blair, Tenley Kastendieck, Emily Wilson and Goldie Davis comprised the 4×800 in 11:41.22.

Hanson was second in the 100 and fourth in the 200, Davis finished second in the 1,500 and Madelynn Miller was second in the long jump.
