The 2015 Iowa Jazz Championships were held Tuesday in Des Moines.

Nearly 60 Iowa high school bands and more than 1,500 students participated.

Newell-Fonda came in third, out of eight Class 1A bands, and Newell-Fonda student Zach Hecht was named a Class 1A outstanding performer.

South Central Calhoun placed first of eight Class 2A bands, and Southeast Valley placed fourth. Miranda Keith, Southeast Valley student, was named an outstanding performer for vibraphone, and Zach Ludwig, South Central Calhoun, was named an outstanding performer for valve trombone.
