Gaels earn first win since 2022

For the first time since the 2022 season, the St. Edmond boys tennis team scored a dual meet victory.

The Gaels downed North Central Conference rival Webster City here Tuesday night, 6-3.

“After not even having a team for several years before last season, this is just an incredible moment for these boys,” SEHS head coach Shawn Neverman said. “It hasn’t always been easy for them, but they have stuck together and continued to work towards this.

“I am so excited for them and hope this gives them confidence moving forward.”

Ethan Cibert, Grant Anderson, Dylan Brokaw and Abram Ribbens each picked up wins in singles for St. Edmond, as they secured the dual with doubles wins by the teams of Anderson and Brokaw, and Ribbens and Alex Hayes.

“Andrew (Horrell) lost a really tough match in a tiebreaker at the No. 1 singles spot,” Neverman said. “They battled throughout and Andrew really showed a lot of improvement against a tough opponent in (Nathan) Wardell.

“Ethan, Grant, Dylan and Abram played incredible tennis, as well, in singles.”

Cibert and Anderson each won their matches by scores of 10-4, as Brokaw and Ribbins picked up 10-6 victories. Anderson and Brokaw were victorious in doubles by a score of 10-5 while Ribbens and Hayes won, 10-8.

The Gaels host Storm Lake on Friday.
