Dodger boys play at Ankeny

ANKENY — The Fort Dodge boys golf team was in action at Otter Creek on Wednesday.

The Dodgers shot a 345 and placed 10th.

The field witnessed one of the best rounds in recent memory at the high school level, as Valley’s Braeden Nelson shot a 63.

Nelson was eight-under through nine. He shot a 28 on his first nine and 35 on the second.

Valley won the team title with a 279. Dallas Center-Grimes and Dowling were second and third, both with 294s.

Mason Frevert was low man for the Dodgers with an 80.

Davis Underberg had an 87, while Gavin Davis (88), Jaxson Dencklau (90), Trace Rial (93) and Camden Sassman (98) were next in line.

“We have to avoid big numbers,” said Fort Dodge head coach Nick Vinson. “It started as an easy day, but after the rain, the wind picked up.

“We didn’t have a great day, but we didn’t have a horrible day either.”

The Dodgers are back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Ames.

Starting at $4.94/week.
