A man was sent to prison for 50 years Friday for the September 2025 shooting death of another man last September in Fort Dodge.
Rolman Humberto Recinos Gonzalez, 39, of Fort Dodge, was arrested in connection with the Sept. 2, 2025, shooting of Justo Galindo Cruz, 45, of Fort Dodge, in the 500 block of North 28th Street.
On April 10, a jury convicted Gonzalez of second degree murder.
On Friday, District Court Judge Christopher C. Polking sentenced Gonzalez to 50 years in prison, according to court records.
The judge ordered him to serve 70 percent of that time, or 35 years, before being eligible for parole.
Gonzalez was also ordered to pay $150,000 to the heirs of Cruz.
Fort Dodge police were called to 524 N. 28th St. at 1:04 a.m. Sept. 2, 2025, for a report of a gunshot. There, officers found Cruz’s body slumped over in a folding chair in front of a garage behind an apartment building. He had a single gunshot wound to the back right side of his head. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
Gonzalez emerged as a suspect very early in the investigation, and was arrested on Sept. 3, 2025. He has been in the Webster County Jail since that time.
