Bulldogs place fourth in DM

DES MOINES — The Algona track and field team secured a pair of medals here Friday at the state championships from Drake Stadium, as Webster City’s Justin Callahan added a second to his meet.

For the Bulldogs, the distance medley relay of Tate Garman, Levi Walker, Evan Allie and Gavin Weber placed fourth in Class 3A on the Blue Oval, clocking a time of 3:31.18.

Teammate Maya Lentz joined them on the podium, as she was fifth in the long jump after leaping 17-2.

Algona had three others place in the Top-15, as Max Nevitt was 10th in the shot put (52-7.5), Sienna Fehr finished 12th in the 400 hurdles (1:07.28) and Reagan Haynes was 14th in the shot put (36-8.5).

The boys 4×100 relay of William Weichert, Garman, Walker and Owen Moe was 14th in the prelims, as the girls 4×100 relay of Lillian Allie, Lentz, Alissa Engel and Natalie Johnson placed 17th.

Callahan, who claimed a seventh in the 400-meter dash on Thursday, earned the same in the 400-meter hurdles, going 54.33, which was just off his school record time of 54.13.

The distance medley relay of Jaxon Griffith, Kaleb Hansen, Rylan Stroner and Daniel Murillo-Delfin placed 17th in 3:38.14, as the 4×400 relay of Stroner, Murillo-Delfin, Hansen and Callahan were 13th in the prelims. Griffith was 15th in the 110 hurdle prelims.

Izzy Grossoehme placed 10th in the 400 in 59.09 and Amanda Lahr was 18th in the shot put (35-6).

Humboldt’s Jack Guy was 11th in the shot put (52-0.5), as the distance medley relay of Jackson Flaherty, Brayden Dahl, Valley Davis and Chase Flaherty finished 16th in 3:37.88.
