DES MOINES — The Fort Dodge boys track and field team put two relays on the Blue Oval here Friday during action at the state championships inside Drake Stadium.

In the Class 4A 4×200 relay, the Dodger quartet of Taevon Feeley, William Jones, Sam Moser and Noah Daniel placed 17th in the timed final, clocking a 1:30.55.

Dowling captured the 4×200 title in 1:26.07, finishing just ahead of Cedar Rapids Prairie and Valley in a loaded third heat. Fort Dodge came out of heat two, placing fifth overall ahead of Iowa City High, Pleasant Valley and Cedar Rapids Kennedy.

“That group has run the 4×2 just four times together this year, and you could see some of the nerves with three of the four making their state debut,” FDSH head coach Nik Moser said. “Typically, you’d have a 4×2 that ran together four times before the Drake Relays, so it was kind of a weird year for that.

“But it was great they got the experience and hopefully both Sam and Will can use that and build off it for next year.”

Fort Dodge’s 4×100 relay of Moser, Feeley, Kyree Rochon and Daniel were disqualified in prelims for a rules violation.

“About 20 minutes after our time of 43.12 was posted, I was called by the officials and was told we had apparently stepped on the line multiple times,” Moser said. “I didn’t see it, and still didn’t after going back and watching the stream, but that’s what they said and it’s final.

“That was the best time they have ran all year and I’m happy with how they performed, it’s just unfortunate that an official said they saw that happen.”

Feeley is a senior while Jones, Moser and Rochon are all juniors.

Daniel will make his final run in a Dodger uniform on Saturday at 1:05 p.m. when he chases gold in the 100-meter dash. The University of Iowa football recruit posted the eighth-fastest qualifying time Thursday in prelims at 10.99.

“Noah had a good (Friday) and was able to get out and ran well,” Moser said. “The goal is to move up the ladder from his eighth. We’re looking forward to it.”

The field includes top qualifier Deztin McMurrin of Waterloo West, as the senior went 10.65, and Norwalk’s Kaiden Kunze, who is chasing four state titles this week. Kunze went 10.75.

Rounding out the event will be Quintin Pollard from Sioux City East, Noah Ross of Ankeny Centennial, Dawson Dougherty of Cedar Rapids Kennedy, Stephen Tour from Johnson and Dominic Cabildo of Urbandale.

Starting at $4.94/week.
