Hopes shoppers will visit local businesses

As we approach the end of a challenging year, I would like to encourage you to support our regional economy by purchasing your goods, services, and holiday gifts at a local business. Although I believe that shopping locally is important year-round, it is critical that we patronize the businesses in the greater Fort Dodge region, to ensure a smooth and fast recovery from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Many of these businesses have faced double digit percentage sale losses due to COVID-19 restrictions. Our community is defined by the number and quality of our local businesses. Please try to patronize them whenever possible.

Shopping at a local business not only supports our friends and neighbors in business, but your hard-earned dollars support our entire community and the place we all call home. For example, revenue captured from shopping at our area businesses support the improvements to our local streets and adjacent infrastructure. Simply put, our local retail sales have a direct impact on street repairs.

Additionally, local businesses put money back into our economy by providing jobs and wages for our friends and neighbors, and by donating to a variety of community organizations and causes.

As a Greater Fort Dodge Growth Alliance board member, I know that our local businesses are working tirelessly to provide a safe shopping experience for customers while also expanding their online shopping options.

If we all come together and unite as a community and region, we can make a significant difference this holiday season.

Merry Christmas!
