Brother deserves to be re-elected as sheriff

To the editor:

This letter is to encourage all Webster County residents to vote in the primary on Tuesday, June 4, 2024. A particularly important vote will take place that day, the re-election of Webster County Sheriff Luke Fleener.

My brother’s story starts in Dayton, Iowa. Being from a small school, Luke could play sports and participate in music, and he did both. As his little sister, seeing him in musicals and show choir made me proud. As a competitor, he went out for every sport he could, and he excelled at them all. Being a cheerleader I had the opportunity to see every basketball game he played. He was also a natural cowboy, so he rode bareback bronc and team roped at the rodeos. As he “retired” from organized sports, he found basketball games around town in which to play.

When we were kids, our grandparents lived out of town. While traveling to see them, Luke would point out abandoned buildings and houses to tell me of his dream to fix them up one day. He said that he wanted to work hard to make those places better.

Just as in sports, Luke has spent his whole life competing to be the best. Like a kid seeing abandoned buildings, Luke strives to work hard to make things better. His competitive nature and work ethic drove him to transform the Sheriff’s Office into a proactive and professional environment. My brother has proven himself worthy to maintain the office of Webster County Sheriff by how he and Chief Deputy Derek Christie run the office and care for the employees.

Please vote for my brother, Luke M Fleener for Sheriff on June 4.

Thank you!
