Fort Dodge Fire Rescue arrived at 732 S. 31st St. to find the automotive shop and office areas both heavily involved with fire. Crews made an aggressive fire attack with three handlines to extinguish the fire.

No one was injured in the blaze, which was reported at 3:08 p.m. Saturday.

The building contained vehicles, flammable liquids and gases that contributed to the large fire load. Fire and EMS crews were able to prevent the fire from spreading to a building near the burning structure.

The building’s owner was removing gasoline from a tank when the fuel spilled and ignited, spreading inside the shop area.

Fort Dodge firefighters work at the scene of a fire at 732 S. 31st St. Saturday afternoon. The auto shop sustained heavy fire and smoke damage, with several vehicles and a large inventory of equipment and tools destroyed.

Two cars, one forklift, two motorcycles and two mopeds were destroyed. A large inventory of tools and equipment were also destroyed. Three other vehicles suffered fire damage.

The building is owned by Anthony Ainger.
