Where do you teach?

Fort Dodge Middle School

What grade/subject do you teach?

I teach 6-8 grade Family and Consumer Sciences.

Why do you teach?

I teach to make a positive difference in our young peoples’ lives. Family and Consumer Sciences curriculum offers to teach students a variety of life skills to enhance their quality of life and that is what I aim to do.

What is your favorite part of the school day?

My favorite part of the school day is seeing students excited to hear what we will be learning about that day. I try my best to provide a variety of teaching methods to keep the learning engaging and fun for our students.

What are you working hardest on right now?

Right now my biggest focus is on building the FCS curriculum as this is a brand new program at Fort Dodge Middle School.

What are you most proud of as a teacher?

I am most proud of seeing my vision for the FCS curriculum come to life each day with our middle school students.

What makes you the happiest as a teacher?

My happiest moments as a teacher are when students share with me how they were able to use what we have learned in class in their personal lives. Hearing the pride or excitement in the student’s voice as they share the experience with me brings me so much joy.

What are your interests/hobbies outside of school?

Outside of school I can be found enjoying time with my husband Cole, daughter Adeline, and our cat Roger. Weekends are often spent with our families and friends.

What do you wish your students/families knew about you?

I wish my students and their families knew just how passionate I am about teaching Family and Consumer Sciences. FCS covers a wide range of curriculum content that is applicable to everyday lives and will improve the quality of life for our students, their families, and our communities.

What does Together We Rise mean to you?

Together We Rise means to learn and grow each day, to try something new, and to always put your best foot forward. Each day is a new day to rise to be our best, and together we can do great things.
