FDSH wins consecutive soccer matches for first time since ’17

Fort Dodge head coach Nic Huse kept a little secret from his soccer team on Thursday night.

The first-year head coach knew exactly the last time the Dodgers had won consecutive matches on the pitch, thanks to the research of assistant and former player Parker Schillerstrom.

Huse didn’t let his squad know until the opportunity became a reality.

After the Dodgers (2-4 overall) knocked off Waterloo East by a final score of 5-1, Huse relayed the message to his group. This became Fort Dodge’s first win streak in boys soccer since 2017.

“Parker told me right before the game,” Huse said. “We kept it to ourselves and didn’t tell the kids until afterwards.

“They were pretty excited to find that out, after all the hard work that they’ve put in.”

Madden Bailey had two goals for FDSH, while Ayden Le, Oscar Suriano and Garrett Royster added one each.

Recording assists for the Dodgers were Mateo Ron and Conrad Greathouse with two each. Goalkeeper Alex Berger came out of the box and fed Suriano on his goal. Berger had seven saves on the night.

“We kept possession of the ball,” Huse said. “We did a good job of connecting our passes and keeping the ball on our side of the field for the majority of the possession all night long.”

The Dodgers are back in action on Tuesday when they host Mason City for a 7 p.m. start.

Starting at $4.94/week.
