Pliners thank community

To the editor: Chris and I would like to give a big thank you to everyone who gave gifts of money towards our our home project from The Messenger article that was printed in the Aug. 28 edition. A very special thank you to our friend Sheri Gangsted for organizing this with The Messenger. This wouldn’t have happened without her. She has been a faithful friend through our journey. Offers bet on speed enforcement

To the editor: This is my response to the view of Rick Morain of Sept. 29, 2021. I read with interest his experience with automobile drivers violating speed laws while driving in Mass., New York and Pennsylvania. Well, I regularly drive from my home at Twin Lakes to Fort Dodge and I would like to make a bet with anyone who chooses. End of a war is always messy

To the editor: Every war we’ve ever been in, leaving is always a fiasco. World War II we left Europe bombed apart and Russia took the biggest share of eastern Europe and split Berlin for years. Korea who actually won? No one wins and promising young people die. Vietnam, the North Vietnamese were in Saigon with tanks ready to roll on the last Americans there. Afghan withdrawal was a disaster

To the editor: Most Americans would agree it was time to end our military involvement in Afghanistan. The same number would likely find fault with the manner in which the withdrawal was completed. It is reported that Biden made the decision in April 2021 to end U.S. military involvement in Afghanistan by Sept. 11, 2021, the 20-year anniversary of the attack on America which had to be the most objectionable date for withdrawal one could have chosen. To the editor: As a Christian, veteran and always an independent voter, things have to change. Here we are not long after the 20th anniversary of 9/11 and so many family members are still waiting for answers and closure. In my 80 years, dad had always said you are a member of a Gold Star family. The government has got their fingers into many things. As my dad’s only brother and younger went from graduation to enlist. St. Ed alum thanks Fort Dodge

To the editor: The St. Edmond Class of 1970 reunion brought me to Fort Dodge for a visit this past weekend. The reunion was wonderful and memorable, but I found the venues and services provided by the businesses we dealt with were also very wonderful and memorable. During my visit to Fort Dodge, I stayed at the Cobblestone Inn (very clean, great bed, and delightful, helpful staff). I enjoyed an appetizing lunch with friends at Tea Thyme. A trip to the Dollar Tree to pick up 25 green star balloons seemed to be problematic on how we were going to get that many balloons in our cars ...
