Celebrates Fort Dodge Kiwanis Club’s 100 years

On May 20, 1920, a new organization was started whose motto today is “Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world one child and one community at a time.” This has been true in Fort Dodge for over a hundred years. Although COVID has delayed their celebration, they will bring the community together on Tuesday to show their appreciation. I had the fortune to serve as their president in 2010-2011. Wonders when COVID-19 will end

To the editor: When is the COVID-19 virus going to end? When the 67 million ignorant people get vaccinated? When they lose a child, wife, husband or best friend? So far 540 U.S. children have died and 720,000 people since it started. (Editor’s note: 734,000 deaths in the U.S. have been attributed to COVID-19.) Only the survivors can answer these questions. I thought ethanol was the clean fuel

To the editor: I attended recently on Oct. 13, at the Heartland Museum in Clarion, the public informational meeting of Summit’s Carbon Solutions LLC, on the proposed carbon dioxide pipeline that plans to tap into the ethanol plants in the Midwest and capture initially half of the CO2 emissions of the ethanol plants. With only half of the CO2 emissions captured, there is still a lot of CO2 being emitted at the ethanol plants. New information I learned was ethanol production is not as clean as I previously believed. Summit pointed out that 31 ethanol plants in the Midwest emit 12 ...

Thanks representatives for making Iowa roads safer

To the editor: On behalf of the Iowa Bicycle Coalition, local bicyclists would like to thank state Sen. Tim Kraayenbrink and state Rep. Ann Meyer for their work advocating for safety on Iowa’s roads. Kraayenbrink has worked for years on the Senate Transportation subcommittee for the bill to add distracted driving to the driver’s education curriculum (HF380).
