Supports Trump endorsement of Grassley

To the editor: I welcome Joseph Jackson, of Fort Dodge, to share his opinion (10/27) on these pages. I am writing to straighten it out. He leaves out a central fact that thousands of Iowans attended the rally because they support the Trump agenda and are very dissatisfied with the Biden agenda of lawlessness, open borders, abandoning Americans in Afghanistan behind enemy lines, reckless spending, runaway inflation and replacing the American Dream with Big Government. Our Sen. Grassley was on that stage to accept former President Trump’s “full and complete endorsement” reflects ...

Those involved in insurrection need to be held accountable

To the editor: We find ourselves in quite a predicament. We have urgent challenges staring us in the face with a dangerously dysfunctional and corrupted government that refuses to address them or put our democratic ideals and the common good ahead of their partisan interests. Why do we tolerate this? Are we not risking ruin? But, there is much I do not understand. A good part of our country refuses to accept that our democracy is in peril, even though we all witnessed the attack on our Capitol. Add to this the refusal of our GOP to join in finding fact and holding responsible all ...

Supports commitment to ethanol

To the editor: As a past president of the Iowa Corngrowers Association and someone who has farmed in Iowa for the past 45 years, I wasn’t entirely surprised the most recent Iowa Poll showed that 85 percent of residents in the state believe that ethanol is critically or fairly important to the Iowa economy. With the industry supporting tens of thousands of jobs and purchasing more than half of all the corn grown in the state, Iowa’s ethanol plants remain critical to the health of our jobs market and the long-term sustainability of agriculture. As a result, it is important that we ...

Endorses Kim Alstott for City Council

To the editor: We are writing this letter to endorse Kim Alstott, a man of integrity that we have known for over 20 years. Kim has represented Fort Dodgers from Ward 4 for 10 years and would like to be able to continue to see some of his council work to fruition. Housing is important to Fort Dodge for growth and job recruitment and Kim was instrumental in getting Heart of Iowa to help locally to repair 22 homes and investing over $275,000 in the process. Kim is the chairman of the Salvation Army , a member of PICA (Pride In Community Appearance) for 10 years, on the Main Street ...

Endorses Higgins for City Council

To the editor: After reading The Messenger’s articles on the candidates for Fort Dodge City Council at-large and attending the forum where the candidates spoke, I feel Richard Higgins deserves your vote for City Council at-large. He wants to be involved in the progress the city is making. Richard wants to listen to the concerns of the citizens. Since he is retired, he has time to research the concerns and respond to the citizens about it. I am asking all the registered voters in Fort Dodge to get out and vote on Nov. 2. Please vote for Richard Higgins to give him the opportunity ...

Says Grassley is an embarrassment

To the editor: Iowa’s senior Senator, Chuck Grassley, is an embarrassment to Iowans who stand for honesty, who have a strong moral compass, who respect all people and who honor the Constitution. The man Grassley stood with on the stage in Des Moines, on Oct. 9, defiles all those standards with no regrets or apologies. Grassley has mildly criticized Trump in the past, but now that he is running for the Senate again, he has found merit in Trump’s actions taken in regard to the Presidential Election. Grassley has actually praised Trump for the way he has reacted to his loss and ...
