FD Evening Lions thank sponsors

To the editor: The Fort Dodge Evening Lions would like to thank all of the families who came out on such a cold night to Rides Event Center for An Evening With Santa. We had a good amount of people and everyone enjoyed seeing Santa and getting a hot drink of coffee, hot cocoa or juice and cookies. We also had door prizes for children which they had fun with. We want to thank all of our sponsors that donate to our projects especially Fareway, Hy-Vee and Walmart with grocery gift cards. Without sponsors like these we could not do our projects with the amount of success that we have with ...

Duncombe thanks MidAmerican

To the editor: We would like to thank MidAmerican Energy Co. for all you did for our town of Duncombe during the electrical outage. For sending their van here to park on Main Street for people to charge their cell phones and have a cup of coffee and a doughnut. Also for sending a generator that would service the whole town. This company went above and beyond for all of us. Would like to especially thank Kathryn Kunert, Tim Grabinski, and all the other crews and employees of MidAmerican, also thanks to Lynda Wunder, Gary West, Todd Bingham, and Duncombe Volunteer Fire Department and also ...

Service clubs say thank you

To the editor: We would like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude to Fareway of Fort Dodge for hosting our 2021 Service Clubs United Foodraiser. Without Fareway opening their doors on a Sunday afternoon, this event would not have been possible. They were very gracious and accommodating – and for that we say THANK YOU! Service clubs spent seven minutes or less to collect the items they needed for their food pantry with $3,641.79 worth of groceries or other needed items being donated to Upper Des Moines Opportunity, Fort Dodge School System, The Salvation Army, The Lotus ...

Worried about safety on Highway 20

To the editor: We are writing this with great concerns over the changes that occurring on Highway 20 and Poplar Avenue. We realize that the truckstop and the R cut road have been approved, (against the recommendation of the zoning board and concerned citizens), but with the 44 acre warehouse distribution center trying to be rezoned industrial, we the citizens of Webster County have grave safety concerns. With a huge warehouse distribution center being built and the possibility of many more, the amount of semi traffic on that section of Highway 20 will increase astronomically. There ...

Misinformation a great threat to society

To the editor: Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds and Republicans say you should have a right to choose your health care, meaning the shot. They must only be talking about males because they don’t want women to choose their health care, meaning abortion. Another example of their manipulations. If you’d have told me a couple years ago people wouldn’t get a shot to save themselves from a plague I probably wouldn’t believe it. Yes, a plague (an epidemic disease causing a high rate of mortality.) Over 762,000 United States deaths (most of any country) and over 5 million worldwide ...

Grateful for My Happy Haven

To the editor: Over three years ago I wrote a letter like the one I am writing now. My Dad, Dennis “Dodger Denny” Olson, unexpectedly passed away. The amount of love and support my family was shown from the city of Fort Dodge was so entirely out of this world. My mom wondered how we would ever thank each person. So, I wrote a Letter to the Editor hoping I could reach as community members as possible. So, I am doing this again — same idea but different parent. In December of 2020 our entire lives changed in a single emergency room visit. My Mom, Kathy Miller-Olson, was diagnosed ...
