To the editor: On Wednesday, Jan. 19, one day before the anniversary of his first year in office, President Biden held his 10th press conference, less than any of the five previous presidents in their first year. At one time he sarcastically thanked his communications team for helping him out, as if to blame them for his rambling and losing his thoughts. He became irritated at some of the reporters. To the Editor: On the Editorial page on 1-11-22 were two important articles that must be read. Randy Evans, executive director of Iowa Freedom of Information Council, noted that the Republican leaders who control the Senate, in Iowa, announced a decision that erases more than a century of openness- evicting journalists from the floor of the Senate. Also it was noted that there are so many news outlets (TV, internet, blogs, etc.) that there is not adequate space to accommodate the number of journalists. To the editor: Iowans with chronic conditions who rely on regular medications should be grateful for state Rep. Ann Meyer’s leadership as chair of the House Human Resources Committee on critical lifesaving legislation. Last session she helped usher House File 656, Nonmedical Switching legislation, through her committee standing up to insurance companies who have a practice of changing coverage of prescriptions solely based on cost. Says victims deserve constitutional rights

To the editor: When someone becomes the victim of a crime, financial hardships often arise. No one asks to become the victim of a crime. However, once they are it can be costly, in more ways than one. Whether it’s medical bills, property damage, lost wages or additional expenses, being a victim can take quite a financial toll on someone. That’s where restitution comes in. Restitution is a way to recompensate the victim for those financial losses. More than that, restitution also has a restorative justice element. To the editor: Wake up you American people who have not been vaccinated yet. Soon it will be too late and you won’t wake up at all after you have suffered the pain in the hospital for weeks, and then die. So get your obituary made out. There is no escape.
