Towey accused of stabbing man Saturday

A woman is facing a felony charge after she allegedly stabbed a man early Saturday morning.

Gloria A. Towey, 31, of Des Moines, is charged with one count of willful injury causing serious injury, a class C felony.

The criminal complaint, filed with the Webster County attorney’s office, said that officers responded to the 800 block of Eighth Avenue North around 4 a.m. Saturday after receiving a report of a man who had been stabbed.

When officers arrived, they found the victim in the kitchen with a stab wound to the back.

Fort Dodge Police Capt. Ryan Gruenberg said that, initially, officers didn’t have a lot of information to go on regarding what happened. Over the next few days, the department’s Criminal Investigations Division continued to look into the case.

Towey was charged with willful injury Wednesday night, according to Gruenberg, and made her initial appearance in Webster County Magistrate Court Thursday morning.

Magistrate William Habhab set Towey’s bond at $50,000 cash-only. He also issued a no-contact order between Towey and the man she’s accused of stabbing.

Additionally, Habhab appointed Doug Cook, of Jewell, to serve as Towey’s attorney.

Towey’s preliminary hearing has been set for April 20.
