Bridge project, animal breeder rules advanced

The Fort Dodge City Council on Monday hired an engineering firm to design a bridge project on Fifth Avenue South.

The small bridge is near the eastern end of Memorial Park Cemetery.

The planned work includes replacing the bridge deck that vehicles drive on, plus repairing the curbs, joints and storm water inlets. A five-foot wide sidewalk will be added on the south side of the bridge. That work is scheduled to be done next year.

Calhoun-Burns and Associates Inc., of West Des Moines, was hired to prepare the project plans at a cost of $49,725.

In other business, the council approved the second reading of a measure to impose some more requirements on dog breeders.

It would add these conditions to animal breeding permits, which are already required:

n The address and description of the type of premise where the breeding animal will be kept. If the breeding is to be done elsewhere, that address must also be provided.

• A veterinarian’s certificate confirming that the breeding animal has been vaccinated.

• A written statement from a veterinarian stating that the animal is healthy enough to breed.

• A microchip number for the animal.

The measure must be approved once more to become law.
