Southeast Valley second in Manson

MANSON — The Southeast Valley boys track team held off South Central Calhoun and St. Edmond for runner-up honors here Tuesday night.

Carroll won the team title with 128 points, as the Jaguars racked up 89. The Titans finished with 82, the Gaels with 81 and host Manson Northwest Webster was fifth.

Pocahontas Area, East Sac County and Eagle Grove rounded out the team standings.

Aaron Hindt captured the 200-meter dash to lead St. Edmond, which also claimed first place finishes in the sprint medley relay (1:41.89), 4×200 relay (1:35.41) and meet-closing 4×400 relay (3:37.32).

Thomas Cosgrove, Grant Galles, JT Lauferweiler and Hindt ran the sprint medley, Hindt, Galles, Laufersweiler and Klay Baker the 4×200, and Hindt, Galles, Laufersweiler and Cosgrove the 4×400.

Anthony Valles was the runner-up in the 800 and placed fourth in the 400, Hunter Horn took third in both the high jump and 400 hurdles, and the Gaels scored bronze medals in the 4×800 and distance medley relays.

Valles, Jakob Koopman, Horn and Liam Shannon ran the 4×800 with Galles, Baker, Cosgrove and Levi Odor-Westrum the distance medley.

“It was a really good night overall for us,” SEHS head coach Donn Larson said. “We had a couple events where we didn’t enter anyone and still had a strong team finish.

“I asked the guys to run hard and they did throughout the night. I thought Aaron had a really good night, especially as a freshman, and even our junior varsity had a strong night.”

Matt Condon was a three event winner for Manson Northwest Webster, capturing gold in the high jump, long jump and 400 hurdles. The Cougars also won the 4×800 relay.

South Central Calhoun’s Brock Nattress picked up first place honors in the 100 and 400, as teammates Wyatt Mernka (discus) and Zakiah Pettigrew (110 hurdles) were also first.

Southeast Valley’s Aden Jepsen (shot put) and East Sac County’s Parker Engel (1,600) both won events.

Jace Hanson was the runner-up in both the 110 and 400 hurdles for the Jaguars, who also claimed silver in the shuttle hurdle, 4×200, 4×100 and 4×400 relays.

In junior varsity action, St. Edmond’s Odor-Westrum (800), Drake Yurkovac (1,600/3,200), Jossef Taveras (discus) and the 4×400 relay all finished first.
