Rezoning of site in Webster Co. considered

Change requires one more approval to become effective

The Webster County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday moved to rezone some property in the southeastern end of the county.

The board voted unanimously to approve the first reading of a measure to switch about 39 acres from one agricultural designation to another. The property is about two miles east of the intersection of 340th Street and Vasse Avenue, according to Jeff Johnson, the county’s planning and zoning administrator.

The property owner, Michael Gentosi, of Urbandale, plans to build a cabin on the property.

The change must be approved once more to become effective.

The board also approved some equipment purchases for the 911 dispatch center.

A new intercom system was purchased from Iowa Fire Control, of Fort Dodge, for $18,905. Brian Hitchcock, the telecommunications director for the Sheriff’s Office, said the new system will replace 1980s vintage equipment.

Four 55-inch video monitors were purchased for the dispatch center from Iowa Fire Control for $5,200. They will be used to monitor security cameras in the Law Enforcement Center, courthouse and downtown Fort Dodge.

Also, Unplugged Wireless Communications, of Perry, was hired to disconnect and remove unused equipment from the server room in the dispatch center at a cost of $1,500. That company already has a contract to install new consoles and equipment in the center.
