Cowboys end hex
WATERLOO — The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows football team ended a 14-year drought.
The Cowboys (6-3 overall) won their first postseason contest since 2011, rolling past Waterloo Columbus (5-4), 48-27 on Friday night.
Selvin Gonzalez was the groundhog for the Cowboys, running for 182 yards on 19 carries and two scores.
Joel Meier had 10 carries for 75 yards, and Colin Sesker had eight carries for 96 yards and two scores.
Five different CG-D backs reached the end zone as the Cowboys built a 20-6 lead and never looked back.
Kolton Hefti scored the first touchdown on an eight-yard run. Sesker hit paydirt from six yards out for his first score.
Gonzalez had one of his two touchdowns from six yards.
Joel Meier put the Cowboys up 27-6 on a five-yard run.
Freshman Paxton Lingenfelter set up the next touchdown, intercepting a pass and returning it to the Sailors 11-yard line. Easton Beyer then found the end zone from two yards out.
Gonzalez’s second score came on a one-yard plunge.
Sesker capped off the Cowboy scoring on a 51-yard jaunt.
