Frevert shoots 81 for Dodgers

AMES — The Fort Dodge boys golf team competed at Veenker Memorial Golf Course in Ames.

The Dodgers shot a 353 and placed 15th.

“The course is tough and is a hard place to play and everyone knows it,” said Fort Dodge head coach Nik Vinson. “The fact is we are better golfers than that.

“We putted it poorly and you have to putt well on a course like that. Once in a while we made some poor decisions. On this course you get punished if you’re not hitting the ball well and that got some of us.”

Dallas Center-Grimes (296) was the team champion on a tie-breaker with Waukee Northwest (296). Rounding out the Top-5 was Valley (298), Indianola (300) and Johnston (302).

Dallas Center-Grimes’ Dylan Jarchow shot a two-under-par 70 to earn meet medalist honors. Waukee Northwest’s Blake Cronin (71) was the runner up.

Rounding out the Top-5 was Indianola’s Jackson Buchanan (72) and teammate Ryker Burgin (72). Jackson Zeller (73) of Dallas Center-Grimes was fifth.

Mason Frevert paced the Dodgers with an 81.

Davis Underberg and Gavin Davis both shot 89s.

Also competing for the Dodgers were Trace Rial (94), Jaxson Dencklau (98) and Camden Sassman (107).

“Mason had a good day and had a couple of bad breaks,” Vinson said. “He had some cool shots as well. On No. 2 he was above the pin and hit a beautiful shot to chip in for par.

“He had some clutch pars and clutch birdies.”

The Dodgers are back in action on Thursday in Marshalltown at Elmwood Country Club.

Starting at $4.94/week.
