Tritons one series step away from World Series

WILLISTON, S.D. — The No. 9 Iowa Central baseball team seeks a third consecutive trip to the NJCAA World Series beginning here on Friday.
The Tritons (48-10 overall), winners of the Region 11 Tournament last weekend versus 11th-ranked Southeastern and No. 12 Kirkwood, now take on Williston State in the North Plains District best-of-three series.
First pitch for the opening game is scheduled for 4 p.m. Game two will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday, with a third if-necessary contest to be played after.
Iowa Central enters with an 18-3 record on the road. The Tritons are 9-1 over the last 10, with the lone loss coming to Southeastern earlier in the regional round.
George McIntyre, who was named the player of the year in the conference earlier this week, leads an Iowa Central offense that sports a team batting average of .370 with 179 home runs. McIntyre, a sophomore, is hitting .495 with 30 homers, 97 RBI, 128 runs scored and 27 steals.
Sawyer Stein has 28 HRs of his own, a .467 average and 93 runs scored, while Tate Perrin has blasted 20 home runs with 23 steals, 77 RBI and 85 runs.
Isaiah Brennan, voted the ICCAC pitcher of the year, is 8-2 with a complete game and 82 strikeouts. Carter Giesen is 5-1 with 94 Ks.
Maddux Gast has gone 8-1 with three complete games and 45 strikeouts.
Williston State (47-13) captured the Region 13 title, as the Tetons will serve as the host school. They are seeking the first NJCAA World Series appearance in program history.
Along with going 21-5 at home this season, Williston State has won three in a row and six of eight. Dylan Klossner is hitting .400 with seven home runs.
Collin Cobb is 10-1 and Cameron Fenn 9-0 on the mound.
