Triton Quintero moves into Top-20
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Okira Quintero moved into a tie for 20th after third round play at the NJCAA Div. II Women’s Golf Championship here on Thursday.
Behind Quintero’s round of 83, Iowa Central is one shot closer to ICCAC rival IACC for 11th overall. Play concludes on Friday from the Ol’Colony Golf Course with the fourth round.
Shelton State remains the leader by 13 strokes over Murray State, as Wallace State is third. On the individual leaderboard, Katie Hallmark from Shelton State holds sole possession of first by three shots over Kylee Lynn from Southern Union State.
“Another solid day for the ladies,” ICCC head coach Kris Graewin said. “We were able to overcome some unusual breaks that happened and put together a solid score.
“We’ll hopefully have an All-American or two (by Friday).”
Quintero had a pair of birdies on the day, carding a three on the par-4 first and a four on the par-5 14th. She also tallied six pars.
Syeda Laiba Shah is 44th after her round of 85, with Azul Orantes tied for 48th and Victoria Verstichel tied for 69th. Verstichel had a birdie on the par-4 11th.
A third ICCAC school, DMACC, sits in ninth overall. The Bears are three strokes ahead of Northwest Mississippi State.
