Southeast Valley boys win title
SIOUX CENTER — The magic number for the Southeast Valley boys track team is 10.
For the 10th time in 11 meets this season, the Jaguars were champions here on Thursday at a qualifying meet. They also qualified 10 events for the Class 2A state meet.
Southeast Valley came away with seven event golds and three runner-up showings, scoring 142.5 points — over 35 points more than runner up Hinton.
Colin Johnson was a double winner for the Jaguars and was also on two winning relays. Johnson was the 110-meter hurdle champ (15.26) and the 400-meter hurdles winner (53.96).
Johnson anchored both the victorious sprint medley and the shuttle hurdle relays as well.
Bryce Harrison, Kayden Showers, and Logan Jaeschke teammed with Johnson to place first in the sprint medley (1:33.82).
Alex Burger, Casey Hanson, Kolton Ollinger and Johnson won the shuttle hurdle relay (1:00.87).
The Jaguars closed the meet by winning the 4×100 and the 4×400 relays. Teaming up in the 4×100 were Hanson, Jaeschke, Harrison and Kayden Showers (43.86).
The quartet of Ollinger, Burger, Keelan Wellman and Jaeschke won the 4×400 (3:28.44).
Showers added a gold in the 200 with a time of 22.97.
Advancing with runner up performances were Jaescke (200), Burger (400 hurdles) and Owen Nuss (800).
Southeast Valley’s Avire Hason advanced with a runner up performance in the 800 on the girls’ side.
Manson NW Webster
The Cougars pushed two events through to state, as Cole Judisch captured 400 gold (50.15).
The quartet of Thomas Lundberg, Thatcher Oswald, Kyle Widlund and Jack Hoeppner took second in the 4×800-meter relay.
For the Cougar girls, Maddie Wittrock came away with the 1,500-meter championship, crossing the tape in 5:07.03.
East Sac County
The East Sac County girls pushed four events into the state meet, winning two titles and earning silver in two more.
Wendie Veit pulled off the 400 double, taking the 400-meter dash (1:00.21) and the 400-meter hurdles (1:04.23).
The sprint medley relay team of Laila Meister, Jordin Carroll, Libbie Veit and Wendie Veit was second for ESC.
The quartet of Libbie Veit, Haley Jo King, Madison Meister and Wendie Veit took second in the shuttle hurdle relay.
Riley Aragon was a distance double winner for the Raider boys, grabbing gold in the 3,000 (10:09.65) and the 1,600 (4:38.59).
Pocahontas Area
The Indians pushed three events through to state.
The quartet of Danica Dreith, Halee Hauswirth, Natalie Sommerot and Khoe Mefferd grabbed second in the 4×200.
The same group earned a silver showing in the 4×100.
Hauswirth was second in the shot put.
South Central Calhoun
The Titans came away with two gold medals on Thursday.
Iris Melody was the 3,000 champion in 11:18.31, and Tristin Gorden (145-9) was first in the discus.
