Taylor, Ayala earn silver at GV Open
GRIMES — A pair of former Fort Dodge Senior High standouts, along with the Iowa Central wrestling team, were in action here Saturday at the Grand View Open.
Carson Taylor, a senior at Grand View and a state champion for the Dodgers, placed second in the 141-pound open division. His only loss came in the finals to Cael Happel of Northern Iowa.
Ayala, wrestling in the freshman/sophomore bracket for Iowa, was second at 125 pounds. He dropped a 9-6 decision to Charlie Dykes from Central Missouri in the finals.
The Tritons had a pair of champions in the freshman/sophomore brackets, as Chance Davis was first at 157 pounds and Coen Grimm was first at 197. Both went 5-0 on the day, as Davis won all five of his matches by fall.
Lawrence Rosario was second at 165, Kolton Keller placed third at 125, Zavain Geronimo was fifth at 141 and both Jaydale Whitlock (125 pounds) and Umair Ahmad (197) were sixth.
