Calhoun, Webster County tornadoes confirmed by NWS

Storm damage limited to trees, outdoor sheds

MOORLAND — At least 25 tornadoes struck Iowa in the past week, including confirmed tornadoes near Moorland and Rockwell City, according to National Weather Service damage surveys.

No injuries were reported from the area twisters. There were also no reports of houses or large buildings being destroyed.

According to the National Weather Service, an EF-0 tornado that was 4.68 miles in length and approximately 50 yards wide touched down near Moorland at 9:29 pm. Sunday,.

An EF-1 tornado with 105 mile per hour winds hit Rockwell City at 9:10 pm, and had a 0.2 mile path.

Tornadoes with EF-0 and EF-1 designations are at the lowest end of the intensity scale for those storms.

“This data is gathered from radar imagery, satellite imagery, visual boots on the ground assessments, and photos and videos submitted from the public and storm spotters,” said Webster County Emergency Management Coordinator Dylan Hagen. “This helps the National Weather Service to make their determinations.”

According to Hagen, tornado damage in Moorland was mostly trees and smaller outdoor buildings and sheds.

Hagen said tornado sirens were activated multiple times. At 9:02 pm, sirens were activated for the thunderstorm warning with 70 mph winds. All sirens except for Harcourt, Dayton, and Lanyon were in that warning. At 9:10 pm, sirens were activated for a tornado warning issued along and north of Fort Dodge. Sirens were activated again at 9:16 pm for a tornado warning issued along and south of Fort Dodge. At 9:48 pm, sirens were again activated for a tornado warning for far northeastern Webster County, causing Vincent’s siren to also activate.

The 25 tornadoes throughout Iowa occurred on three straight days from through Monday. According to the National Weather Service, these storms bring Iowa’s total number of confirmed tornadoes to 51 so far in 2026.
