DES MOINES — The North Central Conference opened the Class 3A portion of the state track and field championships with three medals.

Algona’s Will Limbaugh and Max Nevitt, along with Webster City’s Justin Callahan, all scored Top-8 finishes here Thursday evening from Drake Stadium.

Limbaugh placed third in the discus with a throw of 169-1. His teammate, Nevitt, was sixth (164-5).

Callahan added to his Lynx resume by taking eighth in the 400-meter dash in a time of 49.59. The senior and Simpson College commit won the second heat of the event.

“It was pretty fun,” Callahan said. “I put it all out there so I cannot really ask for anything more. I would say (the race) went as expected, except I almost fell at the beginning.”

It was a busy day for the Bulldogs, as they also had three girls record Top-12 finishes and a fourth advance to the finals in an event.
