WEBSTER CITY — The Fort Dodge girls soccer team continues to raise the bar.
The Dodgers (5-7 overall) picked up their third consecutive victory, knocking off Webster City here on Thursday by a final of 4-1.
“These girls have really studied the game — especially the defenders,” said FDSH head coach G Myers. “They are figuring out what someone on the other team does and know now what to expect.
“They honed in on their top two scorers, and the girls drove that piece home.”
The five victories for the Dodgers in a season is the most since 2018, and the three-game win streak is the longest since 2017.
This is the first meeting since 2024 when the Lynx (7-8-1) beat the Dodgers 7-3 in Webster City.
Fort Dodge took a 2-0 lead at the half after goals from Abby Hernandez and Addie Lentsch. Webster City’s Janey Putney — who was coming off a six-goal effort in her squad’s last match — then scored to trim the deficit to 2-1. It was Putney’s 29th goal of the season.
“She (Putney) got a little bit of space in the second half,” Myers said. “She had a few chances moving the ball forward.”
Lentsch added a second-half goal, and Zoey Balm found the back of the net as well.
“We talked about the difference in confidence and look at each game that we can pull off wins,” Myers said. “It doesn’t matter who or what we come up against — it’s what type of team we are when we come up.”
The Dodger junior varsity squad also picked up their fifth win of the year, knocking off Webster City 2-0.
Chelsea Ramos scored both goals for the Dodgers.
Fort Dodge is back in action on Thursday when they open postseason play. The Dodgers will face Sioux City West in a Class 3A, Region 4 contest.
Start time is set for 7 p.m.
