Gaels use long ball again in rout
HAMPTON — The sixth-ranked (Class 1A) St. Edmond softball team picked up a 10-0 victory in five innings over Hampton-Dumont/CAL here Monday night.
Kaili Henning hit a pair of home runs and struck out six in three innings while Mariah Myers also hit a homer for the Gaels (17-5 overall, 10-0 in North Central Conference).
Henning had five RBI, Myers had two and Lauren Gibb was 2-for-2 with a pair of runs scored and a stolen base. Josie Harvey added an RBI and a steal.
“We were locked in from the start,” SEHS head coach Bill Shirbroun said. “Kaili squared up and we had a really nice night at the plate.”
Eight of the nine SEHS players in the lineup recorded a hit or reached on a walk.
Henning allowed just two hits and a walk while Toryn Helle pitched the final two innings, recording two strikeouts.
St. Edmond scored in all five innings, including three in the first and three more in the third. The Gaels also posted a 10-0 victory over the Bulldogs at Rogers Park earlier this year and have not allowed a run in the series in the last four meetings.
Up next for St. Edmond will be Humboldt on Wednesday night at home. First pitch is at 7:30 p.m.
