ALGONA — Anthony Valles is making the most of each and every opportunity he gets on the track and this spring.

The St. Edmond senior picked up two North Central Conference titles here Thursday night, and added a runner-up finish in another, leading the way for the Gaels.

Valles won the 3,200-meter run in 10:12.72 and picked up a second victory when he claimed the 1,600-meter run in 4:44.46. He was also just short of making it a distance sweep, placing second in the 800-meter run to Daniel Murillo-Delfin of Webster City.

Murillo-Delfin finished the two-lap race in 2:06.02 to a time of 2:06.43 by Valles.

Clear Lake walked out as the meet champion followed by Algona, Iowa Falls-Alden, Webster City, Humboldt, Hampton-Dumont/CAL, St. Edmond, Clarion-Goldfield/Dows and Charles City.

“Pretty proud of our guys,” SEHS head coach Mike Szalat said. “With only 11 athletes, we still got seventh place and had a number of strong showings, which I think is pretty cool.

“Anthony had a heck of a day. Kid just flat-out competed and ran his tail off. He’s really setting himself up for these final couple of meets hopefully. Aidan (Reel) had a big PR and it was nice to get Jonah Carlson back.

Erik Larson was eighth in the 3,200 and Aidan Reel eighth in the 800.

“We asked a lot of Hindt and I thought he stepped up admirably and was in some really loaded individual races. I was also grateful that Jack came and ran with us after golfing 18 holes,” Szalat said. “I’m looking forward to what we can put together next Thursday.”

The Bulldogs showed off their speed and strength, as William Weichert won the 100-meter dash in 11.10 and ran on the winning 4×100 relay while Will Limbaugh and Max Nevitt swept the throwing events.

Joining Weichert on the first place relay were Tate Garman, Levi Walker and Dawson Elsbecker.

Limbaugh won the discus with a toss of 160-11, as Nevitt won the shot put with a best of 56-11.25. Limbaugh was second in the shot put and Nevitt second in the discus.

Garman added a pair of runner-ups in the 100 and 200, as Algona’s sprint medley and 4×200 relays also placed second.

In addition to Murillo-Delfin winning the 800, the Lynx also placed first in the 4×800-meter relay, as Gabe Thumma, Kaleb Draeger, Jack Barner and Murillo-Delfin went 8:40.45 to score gold.
