CARROLL — The No. 16 Iowa Central baseball team made quick work out of Ellsworth here Thursday at the Region 11 Tournament, posting an 11-1 victory in five innings.

With the win, the Tritons (44-9 overall) advance to take on fourth-ranked Kirkwood back here at Merchants Park Friday at noon. No. 7 Southeastern and Des Moines Area meet in the second semifinal.

George McIntyre ended the game with a grand slam in the fifth, finishing the day 3-for-4 with four RBI and three runs scored. Sawyer Stein and Parker Studtmann each had a double, as Studtmann drove in two.

Isaiah Brennan received more than enough run support on the mound, throwing all five innings while striking out six with three walks, two hits allowed and one earned run.

“We got out of the gates and scored those first two runs early, which helped give us some confidence,” ICCC head coach Eric Stein said. “Isaiah pitched a great game and we were better in the field behind him.”

Stein, Tate Perrin, Ben Jones and Sam Sejnoha each drove in a run, as Will Specht scored twice with a stolen base. All nine players for the Tritons had either a hit, a run scored or drove in a run.

“It was great to see our lineup produce from our leadoff hitter to the No. 9 guy,” Stein said. “That’s the kind of production you have to get to have success in a tournament like this.”

DMACC advanced in the first game with a 12-6 victory over Northeast.

Late in April, the Eagles won all three games vs. the Tritons, including 5-4 and 10-9 victories in Cedar Rapids.

A win over Kirkwood, who earned the No. 2 seed in the regional by a tiebreaker over Iowa Central, would move the Tritons into the championship series starting Saturday. A loss means an elimination game vs. either Southeastern or DMACC Friday night at 7 p.m.

Starting at $4.94/week.
