Gael girls still unbeaten

ELDORA — Ahead of a busy stretch of meets, the St. Edmond girls tennis team improved to 6-0 with an 8-1 victory over South Hardin here Friday.

Lauren Gibb, Payton Bradley, Ava Andrew, Cambree Lun, Ava Underberg and Abby Huss were all victorious in singles action. Gibb and Bradley, playing the No. 1 and 2 positions, each dropped just two games.

In doubles, Andrew and Lunn along with Underberg and Chloe Palmer posted victories. Underberg and Palmer pitched a shutout, 8-0.

“The girls had to battle the high winds and frigid temps all match long,” SEHS head coach Shawn Neverman said. “It took the girls a little bit to get used to the wind as all of the singles matches started out close, but once the girls settled in, they were able to put them away.

“After back-to-back meets, I’m glad they have the weekend to rest up.”

The Gaels return to action Monday when they host Carroll Kuemper followed by the final home dual at Butler courts vs. Hampton-Dumont on Tuesday.

St. Edmond hits the road for action Thursday at Iowa Falls-Alden and next Friday at Grundy Center to conclude the regular season.
