Unique turn of events gives Dodgers 4×2 win

CEDAR FALLS — After Thursday night’s crazy ending, the Fort Dodge 4×200 team maybe seeing blue.

In what can only be described as a rare occasion, the Dodger quartet went from defeat to elation in the event. After taking second in the 4×200 to Mason City at 1:31.4 — short of the Drake Relays standard qualifying time — the Riverhawks coach talked to an official about his runner having to leave the lane because blocks had inadvertently been left on the track.

Fort Dodge head coach Nik Moser’s team, which was in next lane over, had also been affected. So the official decided to re-run the race at the end of the meet, with the long-time rivals squaring off.

“I was talking to my dad (Sam, former FDSH coach) and told him what had happened,” Moser said. “He had never seen anything like that in all of his years.”

Only the Dodgers and Riverhawks decided to rerun to try to reach the Drake standard. The misfortune turned to a chance to run on the Blue Oval, as the Dodgers turned the tide and won the race with a 1:29.49. That mark could get them into Drake next week.

“It’s one of the craziest things I’ve ever seen,” Moser said. “They left the blocks in lane three, which impeded Mason City, who then impeded us in lane four.

“It was a dual in the 4×200, and our guys came through big-time.”

The victory was scored by Taevon Feeley, Will Jones, Sam Moser and Noah Daniel. Fort Dodge will find out if it qualifies on Friday

Daniel went 11.36 to take second in the 100-meter dash. Fort Dodge’s Cael Hansen was third in the 800, clocking a time of 2:06.28.

The quartet of Dexter Johnson, Mykel Benedict, Jones and Joseph Petersen was fourth in the sprint medley (1:43.78).

Benedict, Amari McCaleb, Mason Hughes and Joos Langkjaer placed fourth in the distance medley (3:54.46).

Starting at $4.94/week.
