Greenlee Crimmins stays active throughout the year by being involved in multiple athletics and extracurricular activities at St. Edmond.

Crimmins, though, will take on another role during the coming 2026-27 school year after being selected to the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

The soon-to-be junior will join 10 of her fellow female student athletes from Iowa who serve as a voice, advising the IGHSAU Board of Directors on issues such as sportsmanship, safety and leadership.

“I can’t wait to learn more about girls sports and the work of the IGHSAU,” Crimmins said. “I am also excited to represent Iowa girls, support my school, grow in leadership and to make new friends.”

Crimmins had to put together a short video package explaining her involvement in sports, activities and volunteer or service opportunities at St. Edmond as part of the application process.

“In the video, you had to share how you have demonstrated leadership in your teams and how you continue to grow in leadership,” Crimmins said. “A letter of recommendation was also required.”

The 11-member SAAC group is broken down by two representatitves for each of the four Iowa districts along with three at-large members. They will serve two-year terms, with the committee being open to female students in grades 9-11 for the upcoming school year.

They will meet three times a year while participating in leadership and assisting in state tournaments hosted by the IGHSAU.

Crimmins found out her application had been selected while in class.

“The IGHSAU called to notify me,” she said. “When I was able to call back and heard the news, I was so excited. The first thing I did was text my parents. Then, I went straight into Mr. (Maurice) Ruble and Mr. (David) Flattery’s room to let them know I had been chosen and to thank them for their letters of recommendation.

“Without the support of all of these people and my coaches, this opportunity would not have been possible.”

The Iowa High School Athletic Association also has a student advisory committee, selecting 16 males to serve.

Starting at $4.94/week.
