Gael girls pull through for home victory, 46-36

The St. Edmond girls needed an answer here Monday night.

Down by five to Eagle Grove, that answer came in the form of Chloe Palmer, as the freshman spearheaded a 17-7 run that resulted in a 46-36 victory for the Gaels.

Palmer had a game-high 16 points, scoring 11 of those during that game-changing spurt.

“It might not have been pretty, but a win is a win,” SEHS head coach CJ Tracy said. “I thought during that run we did a better job of attacking and getting into the paint. That started with Chloe. We were able to get the ball inside-out and we limited out mistakes.

“When you can get up more shots and not turn the ball over as much, good things can happen.”

Josie Harvey added six points, with Michaela Leiting and Anna Lursen each scoring five for the Gaels (4-12 overall), who knocked down seven 3-pointers.

The four wins matches the most for the program since the 2020-21 season with five regular season games to play.

Palmer also had six rebounds and four steals. Silvia Heldorfer grabbed four rebounds, and both Abby Huss and Payton Bradley sank triples off the bench.

“We got rebounds when we really needed them,” Tracy said. “I thought we shot the ball well, especially from deep (St. Edmond made five 3-pointers in the first half).

“We’ve come a long ways here as we approach the postseason.”

For the Eagles (0-17), Chloe Steil had 12 points with Myah Edwards recording 13 rebounds. Nadia Kaiser had six points, seven boards, four steals and two blocks.

The Gaels head to Iowa Falls-Alden on Tuesday while Eagle Grove hosts North Union.
