Gaels open at Doug Wood Invite

MANSON — Wrestling action begins to really pick up steam this weekend, as several area teams head to the Doug Wood Invitational here Saturday hosted by Manson Northwest Webster.

Joining the Cougars will be St. Edmond, East Sac County, South Central Calhoun, West Bend-Mallard, Alta-Aurelia, MMCRU, Ogden, Ridge View, South Hamilton and Woodbury Central.

Opening round matches are set to start at 10 a.m.

Last year, Woodbury Central racked up 213 points to easily claim team honors with Ogden second and South Central Calhoun third. The Gaels, who have yet to hit the mats this year, finished seventh with 100 points.

A total of 10 champions are expected to return with three coming from Woodbury Central in senior Brand Beaver and juniors Zack Butler and Ashton Libke.

Manson Northwest Webster senior Tateum Hanson, West Bend-Mallard sophomore Mason Knapp, east Sac County senior Charlie Veit and South Central Calhoun senior Brock Nattress were all crowned last year.

Ogden’s Kinnick and Kolton Munson, along with South Hamilton’s Graham Peters also won titles.

For the Gaels, Sam Myer was a runner-up with Adam Walker finishing third and Zach Rossmanith fifth. Walker went 3-1 with three falls, Myer was 2-1 with a pair of pins and Rossmanith put together a 3-2 day wtih three falls.
