Rockwell City woman killed in Missouri crash

Her husband suffered serious injuries in fiery wreck

A Rockwell City woman was killed and her husband was seriously injured in a fiery crash on a Missouri highway on Saturday.

Two other women were also killed in the collision.

Vicki Harper, 76, of Rockwell City, died, according to published reports and family acquaintances.

Her husband, Steven Harper, 72, of Rockwell City, was seriously injured. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that he was airlifted to Bryan West Medical Center in Lincoln, Nebraska.

A passenger who was in the Harpers’ vehicle, 67-year-old Marcine Usher, of Harlan, also died in the crash.

Marvies Garrett, 59, of Carthage, Texas, died in the wreck as well.

The crash happened at 1:25 p.m. Saturday on U.S. Highway 71 about one and a half miles north of the community of Burlington Junction, the State Highway Patrol reported.

Troopers reported that Garrett was northbound in a 2026 Chevrolet Equinox when her vehicle crossed the center line and hit a southbound 2026 Ford Explorer operated by Steven Harper.

The Chevrolet hit the Ford head-on, troopers said.

Both vehicles caught fire after the crash, according to the State Highway Patrol.

Vicki Harper, Usher and Garrett were pronounced dead at the scene by the Nodaway County coroner.

Dakota Wesley University in Mitchell, South Dakota, reported that Garrett was on her way to her son’s graduation at that school when the crash occurred.
