A number of area baseball players were recently named to the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association all-district teams.
Fort Dodge’s Dalton Rosalez made the second team in Class 4A, while St. Edmond’s trio of John Nemmers, Hayden Derrig and Grant Galles were on the second team in 1A.
Rosalez had himself a senior season to remember, hitting .353 while leading the Dodgers with 42 hits and 36 RBI. He also was hit 11 times and drew eight walks with seven doubles, seven stolen bases and a triple.
On the mound, Rosalez posted a 4-2 record with 31 strikeouts in five starts.
Nemmers hit .339 with 20 RBI, three homers and a slugging percentage of .589 for the Gaels as a senior. Derrig, a junior, had a .462 average with an on-base of .539 and a slugging of .615 with 25 runs scored, 15 steals and 50 strikeouts on the mound in 43 innings pitched.
Galles, a freshman, hit .417 with 13 RBI and a pair of doubles, scoring nine runs.
Humboldt’s Josh Thurm and Isaiah Busick made the 3A first team, with teammate Evan Hatcher on the second. Webster City’s Ty McKinney was first and Keegan Hisler second, with Algona’s Aiden Ulrich and Tate Slagle on the second.
Thurm, Busick and Hatcher helped the Wildcats win the North Central Conference. Thurm, a senior, hit .410 with 45 runs scored and 21 RBI, while Busick, a sophomore, hit .407 with 33 RBI, eight doubles, three homers and a 7-1 record with 56 strikeouts.
Hatcher, a junior, drove in 17 while handling most of the catching duties for a pitching staff that had a team ERA of 2.35.
McKinney, a senior, hit .359 with 13 doubles and an on-base of nearly .500, while Hisler, a junior, had an on-base of .515 with 27 RBI and 16 steals. The two also had five wins on the mound.
From Manson Northwest Webster, Dillon Manthei and Lane Moline were 2A first team selections, with Alec Whitehill on the second. Joining Whitehill were South Central Calhoun’s Charlie Nattress and Andrew Anderson, along with Emmetsburg’s Nolan Gustafson.
Also in 2A, Jake Jeske of Eagle Grove was on the first team and Cayden Schultz on the second.
Bishop Garrigan’s Garrett Heying and Andrew Fogarty were on the first team in 1A, while teammates Justin Bauer, Nathan Merron, Keaton Helleseth and Cal Birkey were second. Newell-Fonda’s Carter Sievers and Mason Dicks made the first, with Max Carlson on the second.
Other picks were Talan Priester of North Union (second) and Sam Fehr of West Bend-Mallard (honorable mention).
Manthei went 6-2 as a senior with 87 strikeouts in just under 55 innings, while Moline had four wins and 59 strikeouts and Whitehill had four wins with 57 strikeouts.
Both Manthei and Whitehill hit over .300 with Manthei driving in 22 and Whitehill scoring 23 times. Moline had 25 steals, drove in 21 and scored 39 runs.
Nattress, a freshman for the Titans, hit .471 with 26 RBI, nine doubles and 18 steals. Anderson, a sophomore, hit .375 with an on-base of .621, scoring 20 runs and stealing 13 bases.
Jeske went 4-3 as a junior with 63 strikeouts while hitting .507 with 30 RBI, eight doubles, six triples and 24 steals. Schultz had five wins and recorded 96 strikeouts in just 49 innings, stealing 33 bases while hitting .305.
