Alt, Wooldridge both shine at state

IOWA CITY — Fort Dodge’s Dylan Alt and Dane Wooldridge each moved out of the prelims and into “B” finals here at the state swim meet on Friday.

Alt advanced into the 200 free and 100 free, while Wooldridge did the same in the 100 breaststroke.

Finals will begin back here on Saturday at noon from the University of Iowa Aquatic Center.

Alt, a sophomore from Algona, was 12th in the 200 to begin the day of prelim races. He had a time of 1:45.34, improving on his qualifying time of 1:47.03 with legs of 24.32, 26.71, 27.45 and 26.86.

In the 100 free, Alt clocked a time of 47.59, which was also an improvement from his qualifying time of 47.87 and had him less than a second from advancing to the “A” final and securing a Top-8 finish.

He posted splits of 22.65 and 24.94 in the event.

Wooldridge, a freshman from Manson Northwest Webster, was 10th in the 100 breaststroke in a time of 59.07, knocking almost two full seconds off his qualifying time of 1:01.85. He was less than a second from advancing to the “A” final and Top-8 thanks to splits of 27.26 and 31.81.
