DETROIT, Mich. — For the second straight season Northern Iowa’s Brody Teske won his opening round contest at the NCAA tournament.
Teske (13-7), the 15th season lost his second round match to two-seed Vito Arujau of Cornell, 9-3 in their 125 pound match.
After a first round loss, fellow Fort Dodge graduate Drake Ayala (125) bounced back to stay alive in the tournament for the University of Iowa.
In his opening round match, the four-time Fort Dodge state champion knocked off Missouri’s Noah Surtin (20-8), 5-3.

Hildebrandt defeated Teske last season in a tight match, while he competed for Central Michigan. The Nittany Lion transfer won 4-2 in SV-1.
During Thursday’s opening rounds, Hildebrandt lost his opener to nine seed Devin Schroder (19-6) of Purdue. He bounced back with a 3-1 win over Logan Ashton of Sanford.
Ayala, a three-time state champion, lost a 12-9 action packed decision to fifth-year senior Fabian Gutierrez of Chattanooga.
Ayala (17-7) a true freshman for the Hawkeyes, bounced back with a convincing 7-1 win over Joe Manchio (15-12) of Colorado.
Ayala, the 13th seed, will now face 15th seed Jakob Camacho (17-5) of North Carolina State.
Camacho lost to third-seed Pat Glory (18-1) of Princeton 10-2 in the second round.
Quarterfinal action begins at 10 a.m. on Friday.
