Myers sweeps throwing events
POCAHONTAS — Freshman Rihanna Myers swept the throwing events at the Pocahontas Area Invitational here on Tuesday.
Myers led St. Edmond, winning the Class B shot put and discus titles. She had a throw of 33-11.25 in the shot put and 88-6 in the discus.
The Gaels were also first in the 4×200 relay behind the quartet of Kenzie Nolte, Ava Bradley, Breckyn Ulrich and Brianna Saathoff, as they finished in 1:56.08.
St. Edmond’s distance medley relay of McKenna Kvale, Nolte, Adelyn Bangert and Alex Leiting placed second in 5:28.55, as Grace Schlegel was second in the 800 (2:40.91) and third in the 3,000 (12:28.11).
The 4×100 of Ella Vandi, Bradley, Nolte and Saathoff was third in 56.36, Saathoff finished fourth in the 100, Eden Horn was fourth in the shot put and Naomi Valles fourth in the 1,500.
“It was a beautiful night to run,” SEHS head coach CJ Tracy said. “We did some good things and see where we can make improvements.”
In Class A, Humboldt finished third behind Alta-Aurelia and Sioux Central, as Pocahontas Area was fifth. Manson Northwest Webster finished sixth.
Avery Fisher claimed the 3,000, as the Wildcats were first in the shuttle hurdle and distance medley relays. Kate Sievers, Claire Dieleman, Alivia Goodell and Fiona Tinken ran the shuttle hurdle while Gracey May, Tessa Thompson, Payton Elman and Brynn Malo ran the distance medley.
Sievers was second in the 400, Brayleigh Angstrom finished second in both the 800 and the high jump, Callie Olsen was second in the high jump, Aubry Fisher second in the 1,500 and Abby Armitage second in the discus. The 4×400 also scored a second place finish behind May, Angstrom, Malo and Sievers.
The Indians had of firsts from Danica Dreith in the 100 hurdles, Khloe Mefferd in the 200 and Halee Hauswirth in the shot put. Emma Sobotka, Hauswirth, Natalie Sommerlot and Mefferd won the 4×200, as did Dreith, Hauswirth, Sommerlot and Mefferd in the 4×100.
Dreith was also second in the 100, as was Isabelle Shearer in the high jump and the sprint medley relay of Sobotka, Hauswirth, Mefferd and Sommerlot.
Ava Moline picked up a gold in the discus and was second in the shot put for the Cougars, as Bellah Aquino won the long jump, Kathleen Hildreth finished runner-up in the 3,000, as did the shuttle hurdle relay of Raygin Anderson, Caroline Peterson, Leighton Daggett and Gertrude Kohnen.
Rachel Schany captured the 800 for Emmetsburg, as Macy Walters won the high jump and was second in the 400 hurdles.
For South Central Calhoun, Iris Melody won the 3,000.
