Gaels put forth strong effort on road

HAMPTON — The St. Edmond boys tennis team battled Hampton-Dumont/CAL here Tuesday night, dropping a 6-3 decision.

Josh Abbiehl, Dylan Brokaw and Abram Ribbens were all winners in singles for the Gaels.

“The guys really played well despite the loss,” SEHS head coach Shawn Neverman said. “We showed a lot of fight by winning two of the three matches that ended in a tiebreaker set, and we were playing without our regular No. 1 in Andrew Horrell, as he continues to recover from an injury.

“Having everyone play up a position in the lineup and playing as well as they did was very impressive. They have been putting in the work in practice, so it’s nice to see that coming out in meets.”

Ethan Cibert, taking Horrell’s place at No. 1, was one of those who pushed his match to a tiebreaker before coming up short. Abbiehl, at No. 3, and Brokaw, a No. 4, each split their sets before taking the super-tiebreaker.

St. Edmond heads to Webster City on Thursday.

Starting at $4.94/week.
