No. 1 Tritons move to 24-0 on season

CRESTON — Top-ranked Iowa Central had no trouble remaining unbeaten, sweeping Southwestern here Wednesday night in ICCAC volleyball action.

Scores were 25-10, 25-11 and 25-9.

Katilyn Steffes and former Humboldt standout Jori Hajek each had eight kills, with Angel Baylark and Brooke Dobson adding five apiece. Haley Alharithy and Michaelah Petrowiak chipped in three, and Molly McCauley had two.

Alesha Johnson picked up 33 assists, Baylyn Johnson had 14 digs, and the Tritons (24-0 overall, 5-0 in league) recorded 14 block assists.

“We knew going into SWCC that they have some really nice blockers and attackers, and that we needed to serve tough and get them out of system,” Iowa Central head coach Sara Horn said. “Our serve and defense made it tough for SWCC to get into system, which then gave our offense good opportunities.

“We have a tough schedule at our tournament this weekend so it was great to have a quick and clean night.”

Iowa Central is now 38-4 since the start of the 2018 season in conference matches, winning the last three regular season titles.

Up next for the Tritons will be four matches over Friday and Saturday in Boone at the Des Moines Area Tournament. Iowa Central plays Hawkeye and Coffeyville on Friday, with matches vs. Heartland and the host Bears on Saturday.

Starting at $4.94/week.
