It was a windy night inside Dodger Stadium on Monday, but it was a welcome-home party for the Fort Dodge boys track team.
Senior Noah Daniel kept his 100-meter dash perfection intact, and junior Jayce Point added another gold for homestanding FDSH, which came away with six runner up showings at the 67th annual Dodger Relays.
Fort Dodge (115) finished fourth in the standings on J.H. Nitzke Track — a single point behind Humboldt (116). Dodger Relays newcomer Dallas Center-Grimes (173) was the champion, followed by Waukee Northwest (116).
With the cold and rainy start to spring, the Dodgers have only been on the track three times to date. Daniel is now 3-for-3 in the 100.
The all-state football standout clocked an 11.34 to win the 100-meter dash on Monday, adding to his Des Moines East gold and his win on Saturday at the Jim Duncan Invitational.
“Noah ran a great race into a strong wind,” said FDSH head coach Nik Moser. “The conditions haven’t been great so far this year, but he’s done everything he could and should to this point.”
Point added a second gold for the Dodgers, taking the 800 crown with teammate Joos Langkjaer placing second. Point finished in 2:07.75. Langkjaer crossed in 2:08.25.
The Dodgers had a strong night in the relay events, taking second in all but three relays.
Fort Dodge’s distance medley quartet of Sam Moser, Daniel, senior Simeon Roberts and junior Cael Hansen (3:43.54) was a runner-up. In the 4×100, the Dodgers (43.66) were edged by DC-G (43.20). Moser, senior Taevon Feeley, junior Kyree Rochon and Daniel were the quartet.
“The 4×100 improved their time and we ran really well in our relays,” Moser said. “These were tough conditions. It was warm, but we had 25- to 30-mile-an-hour winds.
“We didn’t load up on things, because we have some kids running three times this week.”
The Dodgers also went second in the 4×200 behind Feeley, Rochon, Moser and Daniel in 1:32.26.
The Dodger sprint medley quartet of sophomore Dexter Johnson, sophomore Luke Beckley, junior Tru McBride and junior Jamarius Echols was second in 1:39.88.
Senior Dalton Eckley claimed a silver showing in the high jump with a leap of 5-foot-8. Echols was third in the 110 hurdles (17.44).
Junior Will Jones (23.89 in 200), senior Luke Fierke (134-03 in discus), and the shuttle hurdle relay of Brock Nelson, Aaron Perez, Riley Klein and Liam Kraft (1:15.29) all took fourth.
Nelson (1:04.93 in 400 hurdles) and Jones Hensley (12:02.11 in 3200) were fifth.
The Dodgers are back in action on Tuesday at Johnston.
“This is a great meet…one of the best in the state,” Moser said. “Mason (Bockoven) and Kannon (Graham) do a great job of getting the place ready. Josh and Michael Smith take care of the timing and scoring.
“Having my assistant coaches (John McBride and Kyron Wilson) here and taking care of things is a big help. We appreciate all the workers and volunteers who put in the time.”
