FD council awards contracts

Third Ave. N.W., boat ramp area to see upgrades

A three-block section of Third Avenue Northwest will get an overhaul this year.

The City Council on Monday awarded a contract for the complete reconstruction of that road between Seventh and 10th streets northwest. Rasch Construction, of Fort Dodge, was hired to do the job at a cost of $2,119,339.50

Other bidders for the work were Castor Construction, ($2,256,418.38) and Doyle Construction ($2,452,989.37), both of Fort Dodge.

This project follows a 2022 job that reduced the slope and curve of the hill just west of the Hawkeye Avenue Bridge and rebuilt a couple blocks of street.

Also on Monday, the council awarded a contract for some improvements near the boat ramp at the former Sunkissed Meadows Golf Course. A parking lot and picnic shelter will be built and additional lighting will be installed in the area.

The city has a $150,000 state grant to help pay for the work.

The council hired Doyle Construction to do the job at a cost of $264,894.70.

Other bidders for the job were Castor Construction, of Fort Dodge ($266,834.50); Jensen Builders Ltd., of Fort Dodge ($275,235.25); Absolute Concrete Construction Inc., Granger, ($315,807.01); Cardenas Concrete, Fort Dodge ($328,447); and TK Concrete, of Fort Dodge ($355,592).

Both contracts were awarded unanimously with no discussion.

Starting at $4.94/week.
