Anthony Valles and Aaron Hindt both claimed event titles on Monday at the 67th annual Dodger Relays.
The St. Edmond duo won the 3,200 and the 200-meter dash, respectively, inside a windy Dodger Stadium.
Valles, a Gael senior, won the 800 last year on J.H. Nitzke Track, but this time around, he claimed gold in the two-mile with a time of 10:56.14.
“I thought Anthony ran a smarter race and Aaron did a good job in a brutal wind,” said first-year SEHS head coach Mike Szalat. “This was our first night in warmer weather, but it was windy.”
Hindt, a junior for the Gaels, clocked a 23.47 to edge Humboldt’s Jackson Flaherty (23.72) at the finish line.
St. Edmond’s sprint medley relay quartet of Jack McElroy, Jonah Carlson, Grant Galles and Hindt were third in 1:41.10.
Gael Erik Larson was sixth in the 3,200 (12:14.70) and Valles both placed seventh in the 800-meter run (2:15.26).
“Erik competed in a lot of events for us,” Szalat said. “We are having guys feel in for injured guys and I think we did a good job of that. Gordon Seeden stepped up as well for us.”
Humboldt
The Wildcats, who won the Dodger Relays two years ago, came away with a third-place effort with 116 points.
Dallas Center-Grimes (173) was the team champion, followed by Waukee Northwest (141).
The Wildcats came away with three titles and four runner-up showings.
Jack Guy claimed the shot put crown with a throw of 53-07.50. Chase Flaherty was the 400-meter dash champion in a time of 23.72.
The sprint medley squad of Brayden Dahl, Valley Davis, Jackson Flaherty and Chase Flaherty clocked a 1:37.24 to prevail.
Henry Kramer (11:00.44 in 3,200) and Jackson Flaherty (23.72 in 200) were both silver medalists, as well as Chase Flaherty (52.17) in the 400-meter dash.
The quartet of Brady Roth, Luke DeWinter, Dane Clark and Davis took second in the shuttle hurdle relay with a time of 1:08.78.
Chase Flaherty, Jackson Flaherty, Drake Pettit and Davis went 3:43.94 in the 4×400 for second place.

The Eagle Grove 4×200 squad (1:39.02) was fourth behind Keegan Esentrager, Anthony Vasquez, Kylar Sisson and Spencer.
The 4×400 quartet of Gavin Pederson, Felix Gonzalez, Eisentrager and Vasquez was fourth in 3:47.97.
